Militarizing children: russian authorities introduce a new list of Z-propaganda books
russia’s ministry of education has distributed updated lists of “patriotic literature” to libraries across all russian regions for stocking library collections and assigning extracurricular reading. The list includes propaganda books about russia’s war against Ukraine.
▫️ The recommended reading list for schools now features a separate section titled “Za our own”, using the occupation symbol “Z” in its name. The books in this section openly glorify the russian occupation forces and justify the armed aggression against Ukraine.
The systematic promotion of “Z literature” in the education system is part of russia’s broader campaign to militarize children. Its purpose is to turn the educational environment into a tool of propaganda and ideological indoctrination, raising an entire generation of future soldiers for the kremlin’s next wars of aggression.
