The annual Riga conference

On October 20-21, 2023, the Riga Conference took place, an annual event held in the Latvian capital by the Latvian Transatlantic Organization, the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.

Acting Deputy Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC of Ukraine Anayit Khoperiya took part in the discussion “How not to lose the information war, being blinded by short-term victories?”

А. Khoperiya spoke about the work of the Center for Countering Disinformation, which, according to her, is one of the elements of ensuring Ukraine’s information security.

The Center, she noted, monitors the information space 24/7, identifies hostile information campaigns that threaten national security, analyzes them, identifies potential threats, recommends measures to counter disinformation, fakes and propaganda to the authorities and citizens, and conducts educational activities.

А. Khoperiya also noted that international cooperation will help to more effectively combat the challenges faced by the world due to russia’s information expansion. “The problems in the infosphere can only be solved by joint efforts,” she said.

In this context, the acting deputy head of the Center called one of the important tasks to curb the spread of disinformation at the national and international levels, to develop and implement measures to educate citizens on identifying and preventing information terrorism.

“Our task is to implement an even more powerful campaign to counter russian disinformation domestically and internationally, and to strengthen cooperation in the field of strategic communications,” summarized A. Khoperiya.

Since 2006, the conference has been bringing together political, academic and business leaders from both sides of the Atlantic to engage in a robust dialogue on emerging global issues and find solutions to common challenges. This year’s conference addressed, among other issues, the challenges facing NATO, security strategies for Ukraine, the future of the EU economy, the future of russia, the European security architecture, and more.
