Elon Musk is so different: how the narrative of the main inventor of the 21st century has changed

A few days ago, the American businessman Elon Musk has “detonated an information bomb” by publishing his own vision of a “peaceful settlement” of the war in Ukraine. Given the worldwide popularity of Musk, the entire world community has reacted very violently to this “plan”: both politicians and ordinary citizens. But some time after that, the question arose: what was it for?

“ILON – THE PEACEMAKER”

Mask’s “plan” is very abstract:

• Crimea is russian, because Khrushchev “gave it incorrectly”;

• Ukraine should remain neutral;

• Ukraine must ensure the supply of water to Crimea;

• On the territories, which are occupied by russian troops, a referendum should be held under the control of the UN, after which the will of the population should be fulfilled.

You can say anything you like about Musk’s “plan”, but it is unrealistic in any respect. In fact, if Musk had not been the author of it, no attention would have been paid to it. But considering the person, this “plan” caused a stormy reaction.

In general, calls for historical justice, especially in the context of the russia-Ukraine war, are hopeless: since you can always find historical injustice in every country, in the same Europe, in general, all countries have one or another claim against each other, all borders have been revised and drawn repeatedly. Therefore, the idea of sharing something “fairly” is extremely dubious.

“ILON – UKRAINIAN EXPERT”

During the stormy discussion of the author’s “peace plan”, Elon Musk said that the majority of residents of the Eastern regions of Ukraine are russians, so they prefer russia. This is how Musk responded on Twitter to the criticism of American Senator Lindsey Graham, who sharply stated the shortcomings of the plan for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.

In support of his thesis, the businessman also published a map with the results of the 2012 elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to which residents of eastern Ukraine voted for the “Party of Regions” that won the election, saying: “it is obvious that not everyone who voted for the pro-russian party, wanted to join russia, but to say that no one wanted it is also wrong.” With this tweet, Ilon expressed his absolute ignorance of the context of russia-Ukraine relations, which turned into an aggressive war of russia against Ukraine.

“ILON – RUSSOPHILE”

As The Hill wrote, less than two weeks after the start of the so-called special military operation, Elon Musk said that he was interested in reading the russian propaganda resource Russia Today. The businessman noted this in correspondence with investor Antonio Gracias. The letter itself was made public during the legal proceedings between Twitter and Musk, who wanted out of the deal to acquire the social network.

“The EU has banned Russia Today and several other russian mass media. We were asked to block their IP addresses… Frankly, I find it interesting to read them,” Musk wrote.

And recently, Musk’s “fierce enemy” in the space race d.rogozin connected the businessman’s publication of a plan for a “peaceful exit from the war” with Musk’s communication with the russian cosmonaut a.kikina: “Musk made these statements on the eve of the flight of his CrewDragon ship to the ISS, the crew of which flies roskosmos cosmonaut a.kikina. This is what a russian woman did to an American.” By this, rogozin once again tried to “play” on the possible russophile preferences of the founder of Tesla.

“ILON – POLITICIAN”

Perhaps the most important factor in the issue of the publication of the author’s “peace plan” of Elon Musk is the mid-term elections in the USA, which should be held in early November. And here the results of the survey on support for military aid to Ukraine are very interesting. For example, 50% of Republican supporters believe that US military aid is excessive. If we talk about the Democrats, then this position is characteristic of less than 20%. This is a significant difference, on the basis of which Congress will continue to conduct its foreign policy.

That is precisely why the “populists” from Trump’s group, to which Musk actually belongs, paint a “peaceful way out of the war,” because their electoral supporters like such theses.

Will there be difficulties with increasing military aid after the congressional elections? It is unlikely that they will occur. Considering the actual bipartisan consensus on war. The majority of Republican party representatives support Ukraine and the military path. And the vast majority of Democrats hold the same position.

Therefore, one should not be surprised by Musk’s statements, since it is only a pursuit of electoral support, albeit at such a high price for Ukraine.
