Russian propaganda in Ukraine: what is happening in Ukraine and what to expect next

Fake, disinformation, propaganda, interpretation…

Russia is using these and many other types of manipulative false information in its hybrid war against Ukraine.

Why does Ukraine need the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC and why should you trust us? The head of the Center, Andriy Shapovalov, answers.

– We are the people who watch Ukrainian and Western TV channels 24/7, monitor social media and websites, follow information on russian propaganda TV channels, read Telegram channels every day, analyze and forecast.

– Until now, there were no algorithms for tracking and forecasting information threats. Information attacks were not always responded to, and when they did, it was reactive. In fact, the task of the Center is to monitor current events, analyze past events, and predict what may happen. The main task of the Center is to work preventively, proactively.

– We are practically becoming a major information hub for authorities at all levels.

– With all due respect to the specialized media, the state cannot rely on them in these matters, because the media depend on sources of funding, including political ones, which significantly affect their editorial policies and have a subjective attitude to events and individuals.

-Disinformation is as eternal as information itself. The more digitalized society becomes, the more threatening the problem of fakes and disinformation will become. Therefore, information verification skills are becoming vital.
