Sanctions against «masha and the bear»: the kremlin’s reaction only proves the decision was right

The kremlin’s furious reaction only confirms that the decision to impose sanctions on the creators of the russian animated series «Masha and the Bear» hit the target.

russian president’s press secretary dmitry peskov lashed out over Ukraine’s decision to impose restrictive measures on the creators of the animated series. The kremlin resorted to its usual rhetoric, claiming that the product had «conquered the whole world with its kindness» and «propaganda in the good sense of the word», while Ukraine had allegedly «started a war with cartoons».

Such an emotional and unhealthy reaction from official moscow is the best indicator that Ukraine is acting correctly and consistently by cleansing the information space of manifestations of kremlin propaganda.

The sanctions against the creators of this product, imposed pursuant to a Decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, became possible thanks to the coordinated work of the Centre for Countering Disinformation, the President’s Adviser-Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the Ministry of Culture and other relevant colleagues.

Hidden propaganda disguised as children’s content is also a weapon of the aggressor, targeting the most vulnerable audience. That is why russia must be deprived of such instruments of «soft power» and hybrid influence.
