Why is the russian orthodox church bringing relics to the frontline
The russian orthodox church continues to militarise russian society and sacralise the war in Ukraine.
This time, clergy of the roc proposed sending the recently discovered relics of the 14th-century moscow prince dmitry donskoy to the frontline to «boost fighting spirit».
Notably, these relics were discovered only a month ago during restoration work at the archangel cathedral in the moscow kremlin. Even russian dictator vladimir putin came to the cathedral to see the sacred find. The artifact, discovered at a very convenient time, fit perfectly into the new wave of talk about the «greatness of the russian army».
The roc canonised donskoy back in the 1980s, while its head, kirill, declared him the «heavenly patron of the military police».
The church’s dispatch of relics to the frontline is yet another example of the roc sacralising russian aggression against Ukraine. Earlier, the Centre reported on the official approval by russian clergy of at least 12 prayers about the war, a book published by kirill with the telling title «War: Beyond visible causes and consequences», as well as a sermon by kirill in which he spoke of «divine intervention» in the creation of the soviet atomic bomb.
By speaking of an alleged hidden and higher meaning behind the war of aggression, the russian church completely disregards the fundamental principles of Christianity. The roc has long since become a propaganda tool in the hands of the kremlin and has nothing to do with spirituality.
