Poland’s Interior Ministry debunks another fake about an “Ukrainian crime”
Poland’s Ministry of the Interior has debunked another fake claim about an alleged “crime committed by a Ukrainian.”
Posts claiming that a high-profile knife attack on a Polish teenager was allegedly carried out by a “16-year-old Ukrainian” were widely circulated in the Polish information space.
The country’s Ministry of the Interior officially denied the claim, stating that “the perpetrator of the attack on a 15-year-old boy in Kamienna Góra was a Pole, not a Ukrainian. The victim is also a Polish citizen.”
“Spreading such messages is nothing other than russian disinformation aimed at turning Poles and Ukrainians against each other and fueling fear and hatred,” said Karolina Galecka, spokesperson for Poland’s Ministry of the Interior.
This fake is part of a broader disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting Ukrainians in the Polish information space, which the Center has previously reported on. Through a network of bots and anonymous social media accounts, russia is massively spreading fake news and disinformation in Polish in an attempt to provoke ethnic conflicts and domestic destabilization in Poland.
