russian terrorist attacks not only take people’s lives and destroy Ukrainian homes, but also cause extensive damage to the environment. Kyrylivske Lake in Kyiv’s Obolon district has been polluted with petroleum products for the second time in a month as a result of a russian attack.
▫️ The first leak of hazardous substances into the water occurred on 2 July, and another one followed the strike on 8 August. The pollution is already having negative consequences for the local ecosystem. A persistent smell of fuel and lubricants remains in the area around the lake, prompting complaints from residents. Specialists have recorded the deaths of fish, birds, and other animals that lived in the water and along its shores. Specialists managed to prevent further leakage of petroleum products into the Dnipro River, but every new attack brings another threat and unpredictable consequences.
✅ The pollution of Kyrylivske Lake is another example of the extensive damage that russian aggression is causing to Ukraine’s environment. The Center previously reported on the dangerous discharge of sunflower oil into the waters of the Black Sea.
