russian occupation drives Mariupol residents to despair
Residents of occupied Mariupol recorded an open video appeal to vladimir putin, accusing the leadership of the so-called “dpr” of corruption, arbitrariness, and complete inability to govern the city.
▫️In the appeal, Mariupol residents state that the city, heavily damaged by the war, has been effectively abandoned. Of more than 650 destroyed residential buildings, only 76 have been rebuilt for residents. Around 20,000 families are on the housing waiting list, and over 7,000 people cannot even register due to bureaucratic and legal obstacles. Some buildings formally marked for restoration have not been repaired for four years. Housing in new mortgage projects is only affordable for newcomers from russia.
▫️At the same time, basic living conditions are deteriorating: water shortages, high utility tariffs that can lead to the loss of housing if unpaid, and food and medicine prices 2–3 times higher than in russian regions.
Mariupol is being turned into a showcase of the “russian world,” but the local population is left with no place in it.
