Fake about a Ukrainian drone in Lithuania
russian propaganda spreads a fake about an alleged “Ukrainian drone” on the territory of Lithuania near the border with belarus. As “evidence,” a video with a drone is shown, on the body of which there is an inscription in Ukrainian.
▫️ It is impossible to determine from the video where exactly it was taken — the location is not confirmed by any landmarks. The footage is edited, so there is no guarantee that the image of the drone and the video sequence with the sign at the border were filmed in the same place.
▫️ The video shows an ordinary consumer-grade quadcopter, which can be purchased without any restrictions. Anyone can put any inscription on the drone and use it for staged filming.
▫️ The source of the fake spread was an anonymous TikTok account with signs of a bot: besides the recording with the “Ukrainian drone,” it contains several other low-content videos, and an identical avatar is present in at least several other bot accounts. It is also characteristic that the video itself tags russian propagandist oleksey stefanov, a former RT correspondent in the Baltics, expelled from Latvia in 2024 for activities against national security.
The main goal of such disinformation is to impose the idea of a “Ukrainian trace” in provocations that russia actually carries out. In this way, russians try to influence public opinion in European countries and discredit Ukraine.
The launch of this fake is intended to divert attention from the real provocations that russia itself carries out against European countries. The publication of the video coincided with the news that in July a russian “gerbera” drone was recorded over Lithuanian territory, launched from belarus as part of a targeted operation to test the air defense system and intimidate the local population.
