Why Putin lies to business about “economic success”
russian leader vladimir putin continues to talk about imaginary “economic successes” instead of helping businesses overcome the challenges of war and sanctions. In his video meeting with representatives of the “business russia” organization, putin threw out loud figures about “GDP growth” and praised businesses for their “resilience in the face of sanctions.”
▫️ However, behind these glamorous statements lies a different reality: things are only going well for the enterprises that are fed by the defense budget. Currently, russia’s economy is largely sustained by military contracts, while most industries are declining under the pressure of sanctions, high taxes, and expensive loans.
putin is trying to create a picture of stability to maintain the illusion of control. But in reality, kremlin has turned the economy into a tool of war — draining its resources and denying any chance for development. While the war continues, russia’s economic problems are only deepening — and no statements from the screen will change this.
