Why russia has started “fighting disinformation” at the international level
russia has announced the launch of the “Global Fact-Checking Network”. The newly created network claims to unite “experts in exposing false information” from many countries around the world.
▫️The project is spearheaded by russia’s main state propaganda agency TASS and promoted by the well-known propagandist and official representative of the russian ministry of foreign affairs, maria zakharova. Among the association’s members are foreign journalists and political analysts who have repeatedly been caught spreading anti-Ukrainian propaganda and justifying the criminal actions of the kremlin. One can only imagine what kind of “fact-checking” this organization is engaged in.
The kremlin is trying to create the illusion that it, too, is participating in the global fight against disinformation, even though the spread of fake news is a part of russia’s state policy. By involving “foreign experts,” russia seeks to deceive the international community and disguise propaganda as the “independent opinion of the global public.”
