How russian Disinformation Has Infiltrated Popular AI Chatbots
The russian disinformation network Pravda has “infected” AI chatbots and is spreading fake news and propaganda across the internet. In 2023 alone, the Pravda network published over 3.6 million articles, which made their way into popular AI chatbots, including those from Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and others. This was revealed in a NewsGuard investigation.
◻️ The Center has previously reported on the Pravda propaganda network. It was launched in April 2022 as an information component of russia’s war against Ukraine. Pravda does not produce original content but simply amplifies ru-propaganda in multiple languages. As of today, the network has expanded to 150 websites operating in 49 countries.
The danger of this campaign lies in russia’s attempt to manipulate global public opinion indirectly—through AI-generated responses influenced by disinformation. The kremlin seeks to turn artificial intelligence into a tool of information warfare against Ukraine and the entire civilized world.
