Why the State Duma wants to allow the FSB to create pre-trial detention centers
The Russian State Duma plans to return to the FSB the right to create its own pre-trial detention centers.
▫️ The detention centers will be used to hold people accused of treason, espionage, terrorism, and extremism. These are the charges that are being brought against Ukrainian prisoners of war and abducted civilians.
At the request of the Council of Europe, the pre-trial detention center was transferred to the Ministry of Justice almost 20 years ago. Now, the Kremlin regime wants to return to the practice of Stalin’s times, when security officers forcibly extracted testimony from prisoners during the ”investigation”.
The Russian regime continues to tighten the screws on its own population and terrorise Ukrainian prisoners, sinking deeper into the atmosphere of Stalinism.
