Why Russian Foreign Intelligence brags about recruitment videos for Americans
Russian media are actively spreading an English-language video produced by Kremlin propagandists, supposedly targeting an American audience.
▫️ The video, professionally directed and edited, features footage from World War II, highlighting the period when the USSR and the US soldiers were allies. It urges Americans to contact Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service “for the sake of a better future for nations.”
At the same time, the Russian media emphasize that the foreign intelligence service publishes such an appeal to Americans when the CIA makes “clumsy attempts to recruit Russian citizens with primitive video clips.”
In reality, the video is not meant to recruit Americans unfamiliar with Putin’s “cult of the great victory.” Its true purpose is to reinforce among Russians the illusion of “Russia’s greatness and the superiority of its intelligence services,” suggesting that they can openly and successfully recruit US citizens.
