Why the occupiers started an “inventory of real estate” in the TOT

Why the occupiers have started a “real estate inventory” in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region

Occupation authorities in Zaporizhzhia have announced the start of a large-scale “inventory” of real estate, involving a survey of territories and an analysis of ownership documents.

▫️ Through these actions, russian forces continue their criminal practice of seizing property in occupied areas. Announcements of a “real estate inventory” typically precede the creation of lists of “ownerless” properties, with threats of confiscation if owners cannot personally confirm ownership.

With these measures, russia aims to strengthen control over the TOT by populating seized housing with locals loyal to russia or newly arrived russians.

▫️ Additionally, by using property seizure as blackmail, the occupiers are attempting to coerce displaced residents back to the TOT from Ukraine-controlled areas.

Please note: under Ukrainian law, any real estate transactions in the TOT are legally void and have no valid legal consequences.
