Iran’s propaganda: Kayhan state media
Kayhan is one of the oldest Iranian state media outlets.
The Center continues its series on Iranian propaganda and its architects. Kayhan plays a key role in promoting the official stance of the Iranian government, amplifying the regime’s anti-Western rhetoric while actively supporting russia and China in opposition to the Western world.
Kayhan adopts a pro-russian position on the war in Ukraine, frequently justifying russia’s actions by claiming they are a response to “NATO and US aggression” and that the conflict was allegedly provoked by NATO’s expansion toward russia’s borders.
In particular, the outlet promoted the narrative that “Ukrainians are pawns in a losing game orchestrated by the United States.”
Kayhan regularly publishes materials accusing the West of prolonging the war by supplying weapons to Ukraine.
Another key theme is the denial of Iranian arms supplies to russia, including Shahed drones and missiles used by russia to target Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
The media outlet rejects these accusations, calling them “groundless” and part of an information war against Iran and russia.
