Why putin is reviving stalin’s sports parades

russian dictator vladimir putin has endorsed the idea of restoring sports parades on red square in central moscow, following the model of those held during stalin’s era.

▫️ kremlin propaganda often appeals to the “glorious soviet past.” Sports parades were a key element of soviet propaganda in the 1930s, aimed at mobilizing the population, demonstrating readiness for defense ahead of World War II, and projecting the ussr as a “superpower” on the international stage.

▫️ By organizing such mass events today, the russian authorities aim to bolster public belief in the “strength” of the country, thereby increasing support for kremlin policies, including the war against Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, in collaboration with the Center for Countering Disinformation of the NSDC launched a new section of the War & Sanctions portal called “Champions of Terror.” It highlights russian athletes, coaches, and sports officials who continue to participate in international competitions, helping to whitewash russia’s reputation.
