What Global South media write about Ukraine: China

The Center monitors the information space of the Global South and identifies narratives favorable to russia.

▫️ Chinese media continue to use the war in Ukraine to promote anti-Western and anti-American rhetoric. These narratives often align with russian ones, particularly the claim that the United States and NATO are primarily responsible for the war in Ukraine.

▫️ At the same time, Chinese media actively promote the idea that China has consistently supported a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

▫️ Much attention has been paid in China to NATO’s Steadfast Noon nuclear exercises, which are viewed as “an important bargaining chip” in negotiations to end russia’s war against Ukraine.

▫️ In the context of China’s active engagement in Africa, there are increasing references to the “sharp rise in food prices” as a result of the war in Ukraine.

Chinese media also continue to promote the joint Sino-Brazilian initiative for a diplomatic settlement of the war in Ukraine based on the “six points”. This initiative is presented as an example of the narrative popular in China, highlighting the growing role of the Global South, and particularly China, in the world.
