The Center presented new report at the JRC Disinformation Workshop
▫️ On September 25-26, 2024, the Joint Research Center (JRC) held its Disinformation Workshop in Ispra, Italy. Anayit Khoperiya, Deputy Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, joined the event online.
▫️ During the panel discussion “Addressing disinformation as a securiry threat outside the European Union,” A. Khoperiya presented the Center’s analytical report titled “HOLY WAR: MILITARY ACTIVITIES OF THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH”. The report analyzes the russian orthodox church’s role as a crucial tool in the militarization of russian society and the legitimization of military actions, particularly the armed aggression against Ukraine.
▫️ Khoperiya emphasized that the russian orthodox church actively promotes a militaristic ideology, framing war as a “sacred mission.” This narrative helps the russian federation reinforce support for its aggressive actions both domestically and internationally.
During the discussion, participants underscored the importance of studying religious propaganda and its impact on international security.
