How the russian government is recruiting new participants for the war
As russian casualties in Ukraine continue to mount, russian authorities are doing everything they can to recruit new soldiers for the war.
◽️ Today, russia’s state duma passed a law, in both the second and third readings, allowing criminal suspects to avoid trial and punishment if they sign a “contract to participate in the smo”. Previously, this option was only available to suspects during the investigation stage.
Despite the heavy losses in Ukraine, russian leaders are avoiding a new wave of mobilization out of fear of sparking social unrest. Instead, they resort to other methods of replenishing the army, including legal manipulation.
Recruiting “volunteers” from prisons is essentially a hidden mobilization, further exposing the lies behind russian propaganda’s claims of “minimal” losses.
