North Korea’s propaganda: Cho Cheol-soo

The CCD continues its series of reports on propaganda in North Korea.

Another influential propagandist is North Korean diplomat Cho Cheol-soo. At the beginning of 2024, he became the DPRK’s Ambassador to the UN in Geneva, and prior to that, he served as Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK.

In October 2022, it was Cho Cheol-soo who expressed the DPRK’s official position on russia’s annexation of Ukrainian territories. The North Korean diplomat claimed that the so-called referendums held by russia in the TOT “reflect the will of the people” and allegedly comply with the UN Charter.

He also harshly criticized the G7 in November 2023, following a statement by the G7 foreign ministers in support of Ukraine. Cho Cheol-soo called the G7 a “remnant of the Cold War” and “the main source of destruction of global peace”, accusing them of fomenting war in Ukraine.
