North Korea’s propaganda: Activities of the aunt of the dictator Kim Jong Un
One of the most prominent political figures in North Korea is Kim Kyong-hui, the daughter of the founder of the DPRK, Kim Il Sung, and the aunt of the current leader, Kim Jong Un.
◽️ She played a key role in the political life of the country and held high government positions, especially during the rule of her brother Kim Jong Il, and made a significant contribution to the formation of the personality cult around the Kim family.
◽️ After her brother’s death in 2011, she actively supported the rise to power of her nephew, Kim Jong Un, and had a great influence on him, in fact being his mentor at the beginning of his rule. However, in 2013, after her husband was executed on the young dictator’s orders, Kim Kyong-hui disappeared from the public space for seven years, apparently also falling under the scope of large-scale political purges.
◽️ This gave rise to a great deal of speculation about her fate. There were rumors that Kim Kyong-hui had died or even been executed. However, in 2020, there were reports of her public return – she attended a concert with Kim Jong Un and his wife. Despite her loss of influence, Kim Kyong-hui remains an important political figure in the DPRK, as she is a close relative of the North Korean dictator.
