Why russia is talking about a new federal district in the occupied territories

◽️ Similar ideas have been proposed in the past but never moved beyond the planning stage. Additionally, shortly after the occupation began, a “federal district” was established for Crimea, but it lasted only two years.
With these statements, russian propaganda is trying to create the impression that the integration of the occupied territories is in its final stages. They aim to send a message to the local population and the world that “russia is here forever.” This stance further demonstrates that moscow has no interest in negotiating for peace.
If the plan is fulfilled, it will allow putin to consolidate his power in the occupied territories and strengthen his control over local officials. Additionally, by integrating the occupied territories with other regions of russia, moscow will find it easier to filter and repress a disloyal population.
