The only coal mine in the russian republic of tuva is on the verge of closure due to unprofitability.
According to the head of tuva, the Mezhegeyugol company is prepared to halt mining operations because of low quotas for guaranteed coal exports from the republic. This situation will lead to a decrease in tax revenues and leave 390 employees without jobs.

Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, European markets were completely closed to russian coal, while China and India, which have their own coal production, are reducing their purchases. China has even imposed a duty on coal imports from russia. The decline in prices in global markets has also contributed to this issue.
