Why the Kremlin Is Promoting Child Labor
russian dictator vladimir putin has signed a law allowing employers to hire teenagers aged 14 to 18 on weekends and public holidays during school breaks.
Teenagers will be able to work officially, but only through referrals from the state employment service and exclusively within so-called “student brigades” and youth or children’s organizations that receive government support.
With such decisions, the kremlin is trying to simultaneously address the acute shortage of blue-collar workers especially at defense industry enterprises caused by the full-scale war against Ukraine, and to intensify ideological indoctrination of teenagers. Their employment will be possible only under state supervision.
Despite ru-propaganda’s claims about the “success of the russian economy,” the situation is deteriorating, in part due to a growing labor shortage, which is now pushing the russian authorities to promote the use of child labor.
