“War Bill”: Russia has raised utility tariffs to record levels

russian propaganda, which for years used television screens to talk about a “freezing Europe” and its “unbearable utility rates,” is now forced to resort to verbal acrobatics to explain the record-breaking rise in tariffs within Russia itself.

▫️ As of July 1, utility tariffs in the russian federation have increased — by an average of 12%, with some regions seeing hikes of over 25%. In the temporarily occupied territories, the cost of certain services has jumped by as much as 31%. state duma claims the reason is the “deterioration of soviet-era infrastructure” that needs to be upgraded — partially at the public’s expense.

Such statements from russian officials — who are pouring an astronomical budget into the war against Ukraine — sound absurd. Instead of modernizing their own infrastructure, they have funneled massive sums into destroying Ukraine’s. And now, russians are once again being forced to pay out of their own pockets for the kremlin’s so-called “management decisions.”
