The price of war: Russia’s funeral industry continues to grow
While many sectors of russia’s economy are showing a decline or stagnation, the funeral industry continues to grow steadily.
▫️ In the first four months of this year, funeral organizations in russia earned nearly 40 billion rubles, or $509 million. This is a 12.7% increase compared to the same period last year. At the same time, according to rosstat, the mortality rate of russians in January-April 2025 increased by another 4.5%.
This statistics not only reflect the large-scale losses russia has suffered in its war against Ukraine, but also indicate that russian casualties are increasing with each passing year of the war. The rising mortality rate is also influenced by socio-economic problems, particularly the crisis in the healthcare sector, which are direct consequences of the war and anti-russian sanctions.
