russia has halted the operations of the only enterprise in the country that was supposed to supply semiconductors for military aircraft and “import-substituted” passenger liners.
▫️The company “opttron-saratov” is currently on the brink of bankruptcy due to significant losses incurred while fulfilling state defense contracts. Due to tax, utility, and salary arrears, the company’s accounts have been frozen.
Despite “opttron-saratov” being the only supplier of microelectronics for aircraft in russia, russian government set artificially low prices for the company’s products and forced it to operate at a loss for a long time.
Although russian propaganda claims constant production growth by defense enterprises, in reality, after four years of full-scale war against Ukraine, russia is forced to cut its defense budget even for military orders. The ongoing costs of the war continue to undermine russia’s economy, impacting even unique defense enterprises in the country.
