russians to lose access to quality medicines due to “import substitution”
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, due to sanctions, the shortage of medicines in russia is becoming increasingly acute. And the kremlin, through its “import substitution,” only adds to the problem. Thus, due to the new rules for public procurement of medicinal products, russians may lose access to modern, effective foreign-made medicines.
▫️ This is linked to the draft law proposed at the end of last year on creating a list of strategically important medicines. According to the new rules, priority in public procurement is given to medicines produced in russia. As a result, instead of high-quality imported medicines, the state will purchase russian generics, which are significantly inferior in quality and effectiveness. A consequence of this decision may also be a substantial rise in prices or even the disappearance of a number of foreign medicines from pharmacy shelves.
Due to sanctions and enormous expenditures on the war, the crisis phenomena in russia’s healthcare system continue to deepen. For the imperial ambitions of the kremlin dictator, russians are forced to pay with their health.
