Russian authorities are strengthening digital control over their own citizens
ministry of digital development of russia has drafted a bill that aims to ban russians from reprogramming gadgets to change their identification numbers. The law would require the blocking of the number if the identifier is altered.
The authorities explain such initiatives as part of the fight against cybercrime. However, the real reason is to strengthen digital control over the population.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, kremlin has systematically restricted the freedoms of russians and increased surveillance of their actions. Through intimidation and total control, russian government seeks to prevent any disloyalty to putin’s regime. For this, totalitarian practices of the former ussr are being revived, and modern technological methods of controlling people are being implemented.
