Russia is increasing number of budget places in its universities for students from North Korea
Training specialists in technologies that North Korea does not have access to is part of the Kremlin’s “thanks” for assistance in the war against Ukraine.
Moreover, russia actively uses “educational projects” to spread its influence and propaganda in the Global South. By training technical specialists, kremlin simultaneously subjects them to powerful russian propaganda, cultivating leaders of its own interests in other countries. The Center has repeatedly highlighted such projects in African countries. Currently, russia plans to offer free spots for students from Afghanistan.
▫️At the same time, kremlin is limiting access to higher education for its own citizens. University places are being reduced, and students facing expulsion are forced to sign contracts to participate in the war.
russia is paying for the education of specialists for “friendly regimes,” but it wants its own youth to either become workers in manual professions or soldiers in aggressive wars.
