russia has found a new source of human resources for the war against Ukraine
state duma has authorized stateless individuals to serve in the russian army. Apatrids will now be able to sign contracts with russia’s armed forces to participate in the war against Ukraine.
▫️According to the fsb, there are currently around 5,000 stateless persons in russia, mostly engaged in low-paid labor, who are considered potential recruits for the war—especially since they often have no relatives in russia and can be more easily “persuaded” to enlist through promises of large payments or through coercion.
Moreover, state duma has openly stated that many Ukrainians living in temporarily occupied territories who have not accepted russian citizenship are regarded by the russian authorities as “stateless persons.” The new law may become a formal basis for mobilizing occupied Ukrainians into the russian army.
Despite suffering constant heavy losses, kremlin is trying to avoid direct mobilization of its own citizens, while refusing to end the war. Instead, it invents new “grey schemes” to replenish its military ranks.
