Russia acknowledges systemic crisis in coal industry
russia’s ministry of energy has officially confirmed a deep crisis in the coal industry. In just the past few months, the number of suspended or closed coal enterprises has risen to 51 — compared to 27 in April.
▫️ For example, in early June, the spiridonovskaya mine in kuzbass, which employed around 900 people, halted production. Thousands of workers in russia’s coal sector have now lost their jobs.
▫️The crisis in the coal industry — one of the key sectors of the russian economy — points to deep systemic problems. The main reason for the collapse is the loss of external markets, especially in Europe, due to international sanctions and logistical restrictions. With a global oversupply, russian coal has become unprofitable.
▫️Despite putin’s loud promises in December 2023 to “stabilize the situation in the shortest possible time”, no positive changes have occurred.
As long as kremlin continues its war of aggression against Ukraine, the degradation of russia’s core economic sectors is inevitable — and will only deepen.
