kremlin is stepping up censorship under the guise of “retaliatory sanctions”

Under the guise of “retaliatory measures”, kremlin continues to strengthen its control over Russia’s information space and restrict access to independent sources of information.

▫️ russian ministry of foreign affairs announced the blocking of access to 15 European media outlets on russian territory, allegedly in response to EU sanctions against some russian propaganda platforms. russia accuses the European Union of “escalating the sanctions spiral” and “violating international obligations regarding media pluralism and access to information.”

In reality, under the pretext of a “response to the West,” kremlin is only further isolating russians from alternative sources of information that contradict the state propaganda. The ban on foreign media is yet another step towards full censorship, where any opinion that doesn’t align with the official narrative is labeled as “hostile.”

Through these actions, kremlin reveals its fear of the truth. By blocking independent sources of information, russian authorities aim to hide the real picture of the war, the consequences of sanctions, and external isolation from their own population.
