How the kremlin Is Gradually Restoring ‘Serfdom’ in Russia
The kremlin continues tightening the screws by further restricting russians’ freedom of movement within the country. The russian ministry of health plans to limit citizens’ ability to receive medical treatment outside their registered place of residence.
▫️To undergo treatment or surgery in another region, russians will now have to obtain approval from a medical commission, without the option to choose their own hospital or doctor.
The russian authorities claim these changes are aimed at “increasing routing efficiency.” In reality, the goal is to strengthen state control over people’s movements. The Center has previously reported on the kremlin’s plans to restrict access for regional residents to education in the capital and major cities. A population with limited mobility and tightly bound to their place of registration is easier to control and more susceptible to propaganda.
