“Digital Curtain”: Internet shutdowns reach moscow
In the russian capital, users are reporting widespread outages of mobile and even wired internet.
▫️However, the digital network is not completely blocked: websites approved by the russian authorities from the “white list” remain accessible. Previously, similar measures affected 46 russian regions.
As the Center noted earlier, russian authorities are scaling internet shutdowns across the country, allegedly to protect against Ukrainian drones. In reality, the kremlin’s intentions are clear: the russian government is trying to cut citizens off from the global network, leaving access only to propaganda resources.
The russian authorities are gradually implementing “digital isolation,” expanding the geographic reach and duration of shutdowns, ultimately depriving citizens even of the possibility to access independent information.
