Faces of russian propaganda in the TOT: sergiy kiriyenko
The CCD has begun a series on key figures behind russian propaganda in the occupied territories of Ukraine. A key figure is sergiy kiriyenko, the first deputy head of the russian presidential administration.
According to the SBU, kiriyenko has an informal role as the curator of the TOT, overseeing the kremlin’s push to forcibly integrate these areas into russia. He played a role in organizing sham referendums, and significant decisions are made with his endorsement.
▫️ kiriyenko’s efforts have fueled the spread of russian propaganda across the occupied territories. His primary objective is to centralize the information space in the TOT, limiting local access to any information outside the kremlin’s narrative. Numerous TV channels, news sites, and Telegram channels have been set up to “occupy” the minds of TOT residents.
Additionally, under kiriyenko’s leadership, a fake news operation called “Team I” was established, producing numerous fakes aimed at discrediting Ukraine domestically and internationally. In Ukraine, kiriyenko faces criminal charges under multiple articles and has been sanctioned.
