CCD records a disinformation campaign to discredit the NBU
Through a network of anonymous Telegram channels and some media outlets, targeted disinformation messages, manipulations, and outright fakes about the NBU’s activities and the financial situation in the country are being disseminated.
▫️ In particular, there are fakes about the alleged increase of Ukraine’s public debt by 1000% of GDP, a ban on cryptocurrencies in Ukraine, and the introduction of measures to monitor bank customer accounts, among others. Such fakes are false, exhibit signs of coherence and interconnectedness, and have been officially refuted by the NBU.
▫️ The goal of this campaign is to undermine public confidence in the NBU and its measures to ensure macrofinancial stability, provoke distrust in the national currency, and spread uncertainty and panic among the populace.
