What Global South media write about Ukraine: China

▫️ The topic of China’s diplomatic efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine remains a central focus for the media in this region. This was especially highlighted during the coverage of the UN General Assembly meeting.
▫️ Chinese journalists paid considerable attention to the meeting of ministers from the newly created “Friends of Peace” platform on the war in Ukraine, which took place at the UN headquarters.
▫️ They also covered the meetings between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, russian foreign minister sergey lavrov, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. The coverage emphasized China’s readiness to maintain communication with all parties, including Ukraine, in pursuit of peace.
▫️ A dominant narrative in Chinese media promotes the idea that only the countries of the Global South can ensure peace and development in the world. At the same time, news regarding the Plan for Victory presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to the United States is rarely mentioned in China’s information space. Meanwhile, Hong Kong media outlets highlight that Ukraine has expressed disapproval of the “Friends of Peace” initiative.
