russia spreads deepfake posing as serviceman of the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade

The Center has recorded the spread on social media of an emotional video address to the military command allegedly made by a serviceman of the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

In reality, the video is a deepfake. Analysis of the footage confirms the use of deepfake technologies to generate the “character’s” face. The voice is robotic and contains specific intonation errors, indicating the use of AI-generated audio overlays.

▫️ To artificially increase reach and push the video into recommendation algorithms, a bot network was involved in promoting the publication. In the comments, bots are mass-posting identical messages, many of which do not even correspond to the topic of the video.

The purpose of such disinformation is to undermine trust in the Defense Forces of Ukraine and spread false information about the situation on the frontline.

The Center previously reported that russian propaganda is scaling up the use of AI-generated videos allegedly featuring “military personnel” to promote its narratives.
