How russia militarizes education and science in occupied territories
russia continues to integrate educational and scientific environments in temporarily occupied territories into the structures of the military-industrial complex, disguising it as “scientific development.”
▫️ A forum titled “Development of Unmanned Systems” was held in Donetsk, bringing together around 80 scientists, officials, and students to discuss the prospects of drone technologies. Participants included the “Warrior” center, the “Avtomatgormash” institute, and Donetsk National Technical University.
▫️ The involvement of students and educators in such initiatives indicates the systematic militarization of education. Scientific research is increasingly subordinated to the needs of war, while universities effectively serve as training grounds for personnel for the army and the defense industry. At the same time, mass recruitment of students into unmanned units continues in the occupied territories.
The kremlin is gradually transforming education into a resource for warfare. In practice, this amounts to the full subordination of science and education to military objectives and the involvement of youth from occupied territories in armed aggression against Ukraine.
