Ratification of the partnership treaty between russia and the DPRK: what it means for Ukraine
russian dictator vladimir putin has submitted the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between russia and North Korea, signed during his June visit to Pyongyang, for ratification to the state duma.
▫️ This treaty de-facto means the establishment of military alliance, as it includes a term for providing assistance “by all available means” in the event of an attack on either participating country. Formalizing these agreements with the DPRK will enable russia to simplify and openly facilitate the supply of North Korean weapons, as well as collaborate in circumventing Western sanctions.
▫️ Notably, putin is pushing for the treaty’s ratification amid reports of North Korean military personnel being present within the russian army, which essentially signifies that the DPRK is joining the war on russia’s side. This development further strengthens the global alliance against the West.
By increasing its cooperation with rogue states and terrorist regimes, russia continues to erode the foundations of global security.
