Iran’s propaganda: Islamic Republic News Agency

IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency) is the official state news agency of Iran.

The Center continues its series on Iranian propaganda and its architects. IRNA was established to promote the policies and positions of the Iranian government both domestically and internationally.

IRNA frequently publishes content that defends russia, particularly in the context of the war with Ukraine.

For instance, the agency denies that Iran is supplying weapons to russia, including ballistic missiles and Shahed drones, dismissing such accusations as “baseless” and serving the interests of the United States and the collective West.

In October 2024, IRNA quoted the Iranian Foreign Minister, who stated that “Iran did not supply missiles to tussia,” and claimed that European Union accusations were an attempt to divert attention from other international issues.

While IRNA promotes the idea of “maintaining peace” and the need for diplomatic solutions, it effectively justifies the actions of the russian military in Ukraine.
