Between reciting poems and russian language lessons, russian representatives spread anti-western propaganda and justified the kremlin’s aggressive foreign policy. The initiative came from “rossotrudnichestvo” — a state body responsible for promoting russia’s interests abroad.
In reality, “pushkin days” are just a façade that russia uses to cover its true intentions of increasing its influence in Africa. By holding such events, russia presents itself as a supposedly powerful country with a great culture, while simultaneously fostering a negative perception of the “collective West.” However, kremlin’s real goal is not the cultural development of Africa, but strengthening its economic and military presence there.
