Russia’s negotiations with CAR: How Kremlin tries to take control of Africa
President Faustin-Archange Touadéra of the Central African Republic and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin held talks in Moscow. One of the declared topics of the talks was the deepening of military cooperation.
▫️ Currently, Russia is actively present in the diamond- and gold-rich CAR. The Kremlin supplies the country with grain and fuel, and provides very active military support to its authorities. But Russia’s real goal in CAR is to strengthen its influence and expand it to other countries on the continent.
The Kremlin’s propaganda invokes “neocolonialism,” “sovereignty,” and anti-Western sentiments in African societies, yet Russia’s actual objectives are distinctly neocolonial. By reinforcing its military and economic presence in African countries, the Kremlin aims to make them dependent on Russia, exploit local resources, and use these nations in its confrontation with the West.
