Russian expansion in Latin America: Kremlin is expanding its tools of influence
kremlin has intensified its military and informational expansion in Latin America, promoting its aggressive foreign policy under the guise of a “multipolar world.”
▫️ For example, in Venezuela, russia has launched the first phase of a factory producing ammunition for kalashnikov rifles. Simultaneously, kremlin is expanding its information influence. Starting August 1, 2025, the propaganda outlet Sputnik Brasil will begin 24/7 radio broadcasting in Portuguese, reaching millions of listeners in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area. Additionally, since June 15, RT programs have been broadcast on Chile’s national television channel Telecanal.
In doing so, russia is attempting to maintain its image as an “influential global player” amid the loss of international partners. kremlin seeks to build an “anti-American” bloc of countries, portraying russia as a “defender of sovereignty” and an alternative to the West.
Previously, the Center reported on the increased information and propaganda activity of the russian rederation in Latin America. russia’s presence in the region serves as a tool of geopolitical influence, regional destabilization, and a battleground for kremlin’s pursuit of its imagined greatness.
