How clashes between Pakistan and the Taliban can disrupt Russia’s plans
There have been large-scale confrontations between the Taliban and Pakistan. The main reason is the activity of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group in Afghanistan, which has carried out a number of terrorist operations in the country.
Pakistan tried to negotiate with the Taliban to reduce the group’s activities, but without success, so it launched air strikes on the alleged locations of TTP members. The Taliban viewed this as an act of aggression against Afghanistan and launched a raid into Pakistan.
The complication of relations between Pakistan and the Taliban could harm Russia’s plans. Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has already signed a law that allows the Taliban to be removed from the list of terrorist organisations, creating a legal basis for changes in relations with this group. The Kremlin is interested in such cooperation, as Afghanistan could become a transit hub for Russian goods exports to Pakistani ports. Now this prospect may face serious obstacles.
