Russian propaganda intensifies campaign about “atrocities of the AFU in Kursk region”

russian propaganda, amid false reports of the “complete liberation” of the Kursk region, has launched a new phase of a large-scale disinformation campaign alleging “atrocities committed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” Fake reports about supposed killings and shootings of civilians by Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region are being widely disseminated.

▫️As the intensity of the information attack coincides with the approach of May 9, russian propaganda deliberately draws parallels between the Ukrainian military and nazis, aiming to provoke strong emotions among russians and to cement the image of Ukraine as an enemy in their minds.

The materials circulated by propagandists traditionally contain no real evidence, and the so-called “evidence of crimes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine” often relies on second-hand accounts or unverified rumors.

The objective of this campaign is to mobilize the russian population in support of the war, to justify russia’s own crimes against humanity, and to fabricate a false “Bucha-like” narrative on russian territory. The kremlin seeks to boost public approval of its aggression against Ukraine and to conceal its failures at any cost.
