Russian propaganda has intensified disinformation about the “Ukrainian dirty bomb”
russian propaganda has once again launched an old lie into the information space — the false claim that Ukraine is allegedly trying to develop a “dirty nuclear bomb.” Specifically, former Ukrainian Prime Minister mykola azarov, a fugitive now hiding from justice in russia, claimed that Ukraine supposedly has the capability to create a “dirty bomb” due to its nuclear waste.
▫️ The goal of such statements is to intimidate the international community with fabricated threats and to promote a false narrative of “Ukrainian terrorism.” These kinds of fantasies have been regularly pushed by hostile propaganda since 2022.
In 1994, Ukraine voluntarily gave up the world’s third-largest nuclear arsenal and joined the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The so-called “nuclear waste” mentioned by propaganda is stored in accordance with international regulations. IAEA representatives have access to all nuclear facilities in Ukraine and have not recorded any violations by the Ukrainian side.
The fake story about a “dirty bomb” is an attempt by the aggressor to justify its war of conquest against Ukraine and its own war crimes against the Ukrainian people.
